Mocha Mousse

Mocha Mousse

Mousse is traditionally made with chocolate. Besides being absolutely delicious it also has a very interesting history. It was earlier known as “mayonnaise de chocolat” and was invented by a post impressionist painter in the late 19th century.

Mousse can be eaten alone, as filling or as topping with a number of breads and pastry shells. Here is our take on the mousse with rich coffee flavours with the Mocha Mousse. This is a very easy recipe to whip up for all your immediate dessert cravings.

Here are the easy to get ingredients for this finger licking dessert-

1 cup heavy cream (whipped) at room temperature

2 tablespoons instant coffee granules

½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 egg yolks

2 eggs

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ teaspoons of vanilla extract

2 tablespoons Kahlua

Chopped pistachios for garnish

Follow this very easy recipe to make this delicious mousse!

Take six ½ cup straight sided soufflé dishes. Make a collar of waxed paper to wrap around these cups such that they extend ½ inch above the rim. Secure the edge and bottom of each collar with masking tape and set aside.

In a small saucepan, mix ¼ cup of cream with instant coffee and heat gently until coffee is dissolved. Set aside to cool.

Melt the chocolate chips over low heat in a small saucepan. Put the egg yolks and eggs in a blender with sugar and blend it with medium high speed for 2 minutes.
Pour into the cream coffee mixture, vanilla and the remaining ¼ cup of heavy cream and blend at medium high speed for another 30 seconds. Add the melted chocolate chips with Kahlua and blend until smooth.

Fill each dish equally with the mocha mixture. Place the dishes on a flat surface in the freezer for several hours.
To serve, remove the collar from each dish and press the nuts around the rim of each mousse. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
